Nichinan, Coastal city in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan

The city extends over 536 square kilometers along the Pacific Ocean, with mountains to the north and forests covering 78 percent of the area.

The Ito clan governed the region from Obi Castle until 1578, when they were defeated by the Shimazu clan before regaining control through Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

The Obi Castle Festival takes place each autumn, featuring performances and demonstrations that highlight the traditions of the Edo period.

Visitors can access Nichinan through the JR Kyushu Nichinan Line railway or by driving along Route 220, which connects to Miyazaki City.

The Udo Shrine stands within a natural cave formation on coastal cliffs, featuring a distinctive turtle-shaped rock at its base.
