Nichinan

Nichinan is a coastal city in Miyazaki Prefecture shaped by mountains and extensive forests that cover most of the land. The terrain rises and falls with natural features that define the landscape throughout the area.

The Ito clan ruled from Obi Castle until the Shimazu clan took control in 1578. Leadership of the region changed hands several times over the following decades before settling under different authority.

The Obi Castle Festival happens each autumn with performances that show life from the Edo period. Local artists and craftspeople gather to demonstrate their skills during this celebration.

You can reach the city by train on the JR Kyushu Nichinan Line or by car using Route 220. Both routes connect to nearby areas and make getting around straightforward.

The Udo Shrine sits inside a natural cave carved into coastal cliffs. A turtle-shaped rock at the shrine's base creates a distinctive landmark that draws visitors to this quiet spot.
