Mimasaka

Mimasaka is a city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, that spreads across hilly and forested terrain. Mount Ushiro at 1,344 meters stands as the highest peak in the prefecture and defines the natural landscape here.

The city was established on March 31, 2005, through a merger of several towns including Aida, Ohara, and Sakuto along with the village of Higashiawakura. This consolidation created the administrative structure that exists today.

The Awai-Kasuga Kabuki performances happen every October at the Kasuga Shrine Autumn Festival and are recognized as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. These theater shows remain a living part of local identity and draw visitors interested in experiencing traditional Japanese performance arts.

The Kishin Line railway connects the city with stations at Mimasaka-Doi, Mimasaka-Emi, Narahara, and Hayashino for easy travel around the area. The Chugoku Expressway provides additional road access for those driving into the region.

The BELL PEAL Natural Park holds a six-ton bell measuring 2 meters (6.5 feet) across. Visitors can enjoy views of Mount Hyonosen, Mount Nagi, and Shodo Island from this spot.
