Mimasaka is a city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, that spreads across hilly and forested terrain. Mount Ushiro at 1,344 meters stands as the highest peak in the prefecture and defines the natural landscape here.
The city was established on March 31, 2005, through a merger of several towns including Aida, Ohara, and Sakuto along with the village of Higashiawakura. This consolidation created the administrative structure that exists today.
The Awai-Kasuga Kabuki performances happen every October at the Kasuga Shrine Autumn Festival and are recognized as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
