Nakatsugawa, Post town in Gifu Prefecture, Japan

Nakatsugawa extends across 676 square kilometers of mountainous terrain in eastern Gifu Prefecture, with Mount Ena rising to 2,191 meters above sea level.

The city developed from a strategic post station along the Nakasendo highway during the Edo period, connecting the imperial capitals of Kyoto and Edo.

The preserved Magome district maintains traditional wooden buildings, cobblestone paths, and functional waterwheels that reflect Japanese architectural heritage.

Visitors reach Nakatsugawa via the JR Central Chuo Main Line, with regular train connections from Nagoya taking approximately two hours.

The local specialty Kurikinton, made from regional chestnuts processed into sweet paste, represents a culinary tradition specific to this mountain region.
