Imabari, Port city in Ehime Prefecture, Japan

Imabari spans across 468 square kilometers, featuring coastal areas along the Seto Inland Sea and incorporating several islands of the Geiyo archipelago.

The Murakami clan controlled this strategic maritime location during the Sengoku period, before Tokugawa Ieyasu assigned Todo Takatora to construct Imabari Castle in 1604.

The city maintains strong connections to maritime traditions through its museums, showcasing the legacy of seafaring families and extensive collections of samurai artifacts.

Visitors can reach multiple islands from the central port, including Oshima, Hakata, and Omishima, each offering distinct attractions and hiking paths.

The Shimanami Kaido cycling route stretches 60 kilometers across nine bridges, connecting Imabari through the Seto Inland Sea islands to Hiroshima Prefecture.
