Sakuragichō Station, Railway station in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan.
Sakuragichō Station is a railway station in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan, with two elevated island platforms serving three tracks. Underground levels house additional platforms for the municipal subway's Blue Line, which adds a below-ground connection to the network.
The first station at this location opened in 1872 and was the first railway facility in Yokohama, linking Shinagawa to the port city. This event marked the start of rail transport in Japan and transformed local movement entirely.
The name comes from cherry trees that once grew along the nearby bay shore. Today it connects commuters and visitors to the modern waterfront district, where shops and offices meet historic port heritage.
Multiple lines intersect here and bring more than 90,000 travelers through the platforms each day. Signage in several languages helps with transfers between above-ground and below-ground connections.
A cable car system called Yokohama Air Cabin launches right next to the tracks and glides over the waterfront toward Unga Park. The cabins travel a short route and offer an unusual view of the harbor and surrounding high-rises.
