Iwafune, Former administrative division in Shimotsuga District, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan
Iwafune was a town located at the southern edge of the Ashio Mountains in Tochigi Prefecture. The area featured mountainous terrain mixed with farmland and scattered rural communities.
The village was formed in 1889 through the merger of multiple settlements and gained town status in 1962. It became part of Tochigi City in 2014, marking the end of a major restructuring period for local administration.
The municipal area maintained strong connections with neighboring Tochigi City and Sano City, where nearly 38 percent of residents commuted for work.
The area is situated in a hilly region with access via local roads and rural pathways. Visitors should note that this location is now part of Tochigi City, with most services centralized there.
The area was known for its mixed economy of farming and small-scale crafts. Though now administratively dissolved, the rural landscape and local heritage continue to shape the character of the former town's land today.
