Kōrai Bridge, Steel cable-stayed bridge in Saitama Prefecture, Japan
The Kōrai Bridge is a cable-stayed structure crossing the Arakawa River to link Tokorozawa City and Wako City. The roadway accommodates vehicle traffic across separate lanes while also providing dedicated pedestrian access.
Plans for the bridge received approval in spring 1980 and it opened to traffic in the early 1990s. Seismic reinforcement work was later performed to improve its resistance to earthquakes.
The name Kōrai originates from the Manyoshu poetry collection, referring to divine protection and fortune in Japanese traditional literature.
The bridge is well designed for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic with clear lanes and pathways throughout. Use the designated pedestrian walkways and stay aware of vehicle movement when crossing on foot.
The structure reaches a height of 80 meters at its main tower and features separate vehicle lanes alongside pedestrian walkways across multiple waterways.
