Shizukuishi, Rural town in Iwate Prefecture, Japan
Shizukuishi spans across 608 square kilometers of mountainous terrain in west-central Iwate Prefecture, with Mount Iwate volcano rising 2038 meters to the north.
The area shows evidence of continuous settlement since the Japanese Paleolithic period and fell under imperial control during the early Heian period before Nambu clan administration.
The town preserves the traditional folk song Shizukuishi Yoshire through dance performances at celebrations and the annual Nanbu Yoshare National Convention in August.
