Shime, Town in Kasuya District, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

Shime is a town in Kasuya District, northwestern Fukuoka Prefecture, with mixed terrain including level areas and hills concentrated in its southern and western sections. The community supports education through four elementary schools and two junior high schools serving local families and neighboring areas.

The town was officially established in 1939 and quickly became a major coal mining center within the Kasuya Coalfield throughout the following decades. After coal mining declined in the 1960s, the area transitioned into a residential community serving workers commuting to nearby Fukuoka City.

The Tanabataike Kofun, designated as a National Historic Site, represents the ancient burial practices and architectural achievements of the region.

Direct bus services connect the town to Hakata Station in Fukuoka, making it accessible for both commuters and visitors exploring the region. It is helpful to check schedules ahead of time since service frequency varies throughout the day.

The Tanabataike Kofun, an ancient burial mound, stands as a designated National Historic Site revealing the region's early settlement patterns. The site provides insight into burial practices and architectural methods used by people in this area during ancient times.
