Minami-ku is an administrative ward in southern Nagoya that extends toward Ise Bay and contains neighborhoods with different characters and uses. The district mixes residential areas, industrial zones, and historic sites together.
The area was originally part of the Owari Domain and was officially incorporated into Nagoya's administration in 1908. It developed from a rural region with salt production into a modern urban ward.
Kasadera Kannon temple with its red gates and statue of the goddess Kannon is a place where visitors experience traditional Japanese spirituality. People come to pray and find quiet moments, especially during festival seasons.
The Tokkaido Main Line railway and multiple bus routes connect the ward to central Nagoya and other parts of the city. Visitors can move around easily using public transportation.
The area was once a landscape of salt fields and seaweed harvesting before it transformed into an industrial and residential zone. One major factory, the Mitsubishi Motors plant, shaped the area until its closure.
