Mukawa

Mukawa is a town in Yufutsu district along Hokkaido's southern coast, spreading across terrain marked by rivers, mountains, and farmland. The landscape reveals a mix of residential areas, open fields, and forested hills that shape the local horizon.

The current town formed in 2006 when two former municipalities, Mukawa and Hobetsu, merged. This consolidation reshaped the region's administrative structure and introduced a new name written in hiragana script.

The November Shishamo Festival brings the community together to honor the small fish that has shaped local eating habits for generations. Visitors encounter food stalls and celebrations where residents share recipes and stories tied to this ingredient.

Access the town via the JR Hokkaido railway line from Tomakomai or by car along Route 235 to reach the main transportation networks. Plan your movements in advance, as this is a rural area with limited local transport connections.

The community center houses an indoor pool, exercise facilities, hotel rooms, and natural hot springs all under one roof. This combined facility serves the town as a gathering space for fitness, relaxation, and social connection.
