Akita Station, Railway junction in Akita, Japan
Akita Station features eight tracks served by four island platforms, with two additional platforms reserved for Akita Shinkansen high-speed trains. The complex also includes several bus terminals for long-distance connections.
This railway terminal began operations on October 21, 1902. The facility was integrated into the East Japan Railway Company network in 1987 during the privatization of the Japanese railway system.
This station belongs to the Tohoku Noodle Stations group, where travelers can sample regional noodle specialties from northern Japan. Local dishes such as Inaniwa udon from Akita are available in the retail areas inside the terminal.
The terminal has a staffed ticket office, a travel agency, and shopping facilities inside the building. Several bus terminals connect the facility to other cities including Sendai, Tokyo, and Yokohama.
The facility offers arrangements for transporting horses, making it accessible for equestrian events in the region. From here, the Akita Nairiku Line runs through winter landscapes into rural areas of the prefecture.
