Nagoya Airfield, Domestic airport in Komaki, Japan
Nagoya Airfield is an airport in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture, that handles mainly domestic flights and has one asphalt runway. The facility sits at 14 meters elevation and includes passenger terminals alongside aircraft manufacturing plants.
The site opened in 1944 as a base for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service and served US Air Force operations from the end of the war until 1958. It then gradually converted to a civilian airport handling domestic traffic.
The aviation museum displays historic planes and models from regional manufacturing history. Visitors walk through exhibition halls with cockpits and engines that show how Japanese aircraft production developed over the decades.
The terminal sits near several highways and offers parking along with bus connections to nearby cities. Travelers should allow extra time because security checks and check-in counters can be busy during peak hours.
Mitsubishi Aircraft operates a production line for regional jets and helicopters right next to the terminal. Passengers can sometimes watch test flights when new aircraft take off from the factory site using the same runway.
