Heiwadai Park

Heiwadai Park is an urban park spread across a hilltop in Miyazaki, featuring a central Peace Tower and forest trails where visitors walk among recreated statues. The layout combines open viewpoints with shaded paths, allowing people to observe the valley and surrounding cityscape from various spots.

The site opened in 1939 as a commemoration tied to Japanese imperial tradition. Stones from multiple Asian countries were incorporated into the Peace Tower, creating a physical symbol of regional connections.

The statues displayed throughout this space recreate ancient burial figurines that reveal how people from Japan's early periods viewed their world. They show warriors, animals, and everyday objects that families placed with their dead, offering a window into the beliefs and daily life of that era.

The site is open 24 hours daily and free to enter, with bus connections from the downtown station. Sturdy shoes are recommended since the hillside paths have varying slopes and can become slippery during wetter seasons.

At the base of the Peace Tower, visitors can experience a distinctive acoustic effect where handclaps return magnified. This echo phenomenon is created by the curved structure and often catches people off guard.
