Tagokura Station, former railway station in Japan
Tagokura Station is an abandoned railway station in the rural town of Tadami, Japan, with an above-ground platform and a simple wooden shelter. It sits along the Tadami Line, a regional railway that runs through the forested mountains and valleys of Fukushima Prefecture.
The station was built as part of the Tadami Line, which opened gradually through the 1950s to connect remote mountain communities in Fukushima Prefecture. After the 2011 earthquake and subsequent flood damage, a section of the line was suspended, and Tagokura was among the stops that no longer received service.
The name Tagokura refers to the small valley community this stop once connected to the wider rail network. Today visitors can see the bare platform and wooden shelter as they stood when trains last passed through, without any later additions or modifications.
The site is freely accessible, but the surrounding infrastructure is sparse, so it is a good idea to bring water and snacks. A visit in daylight is recommended, as the forested and riverside setting is best explored with natural light.
The station sits close to the Tagokura reservoir, making it one of the few places where a rail stop, open water, and dense forest once existed side by side. This setting has made it a draw for photographers traveling the line.
