Kushima Castle, Japanese castle in Omura, Japan

The castle extends across a peninsula in Omura Bay with three bailey structures enclosed by stone walls and moats filled with seawater.

Construction of Kushima Castle began in late 1598 under Lord Yoshiaki Omura and reached completion in 1599 as a strategic maritime fortification.

The castle grounds transformed into Omura Park showcase Omura cherry trees, designated as natural monuments, and iris flowers throughout seasonal changes.

The fortress maintains its original stone walls around the main bailey, measuring 9,458 square meters with three gates positioned at west, south, and north.

The castle features a rare defensive structure of underwater moats on its northern side, designed to prevent enemy advances during low tide.
