Minami-ku, Administrative ward in Saitama, Japan
Minami-ku is an administrative ward in Saitama Prefecture with a substantial land area occupied mainly by residential neighborhoods. The district contains schools, shopping streets, parks, and local services that support everyday life for its residents.
The ward was created in 2003 following the merger of three cities—Urawa, Yono, and Omiya—two years earlier. This consolidation brought together separate communities into a single administrative unit.
The ward maintains fourteen elementary schools, six junior high schools, and four high schools, serving its population of 192,143 residents as of March 2021.
Multiple railway lines run through the area with connections to surrounding regions and the greater Tokyo area. Major expressways and highways provide access for those traveling by car or seeking to explore beyond the ward.
The area is home to the Musashi Urawa Ramen Academy, where visitors can explore traditional noodle preparation techniques. A local baseball stadium also functions as an additional home field for a professional team, drawing sports fans from the surrounding region.
