Teikyo University, Private university in Itabashi, Japan
Teikyo University is a private higher education institution in Itabashi ward in Tokyo with additional campuses throughout Japan. The main facility houses contemporary teaching buildings, research laboratories, and libraries spread across parklike grounds with walkways and green spaces.
The institution began as Teikyo Commercial High School in 1931 and transformed into a university in 1966 under founder Shōichi Okinaga. During the following decades it expanded to multiple locations and opened branches outside Japan.
This private institution takes its name from combining "tei" (meaning capital or imperial) with "kyō" (meaning cooperation), reflecting a vision of serving the nation's educational needs. The campus grounds in Itabashi welcome both domestic and international students who share common study spaces and dining areas throughout the academic year.
Students can choose from 33 departments across 10 faculties including Liberal Arts, Economics, Law, Science and Engineering, Foreign Language, and Education programs. The main facility in Itabashi is accessible by public transport and sits in a residential neighborhood with shops and restaurants nearby.
The institution established a specialized collaboration with Harvard University School of Public Health in 1993 known as the Teikyo-Harvard Program. This partnership enables exchange programs and joint research in public health between the two institutions.
