Cholpon-Ata, Resort town on Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan
The city extends along the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul at an elevation of 1,633 meters, surrounded by the Küngöy Ala-Too mountain range.
The area contains more than 2,000 ancient petroglyphs dating from 800 BC to 1200 AD, depicting hunting scenes and regional animals on boulder-strewn slopes.
The city hosted the first three World Nomad Games in 2014, 2016, and 2018, celebrating traditional sports and customs of Central Asian nations.
Local accommodations include multiple hotels, guesthouses, and sanatoria, with peak visitation occurring during summer months when temperatures average 18.5 degrees Celsius.
The town features numerous examples of rock art on its slopes, including depictions of animals that no longer inhabit the surrounding region.
