Кырчын, Mountain gorges in Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrchyn is a mountain gorge on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, surrounded by conifer forests and open grassland. The valley floor is wide and flat in places, framed by rolling hills, with trails leading deeper into the terrain.
The gorge has long served as a passage for nomadic groups moving between seasonal grazing lands across the Tian Shan mountains. In 2016, it gained wider recognition when it hosted the first World Nomad Games.
The valley is deeply tied to nomadic traditions that are still practiced in Kyrgyzstan today. During the World Nomad Games, visitors can watch traditional activities like eagle hunting, horseback competitions, and craft demonstrations right in the open landscape.
The nearest town is Cholpon-Ata, which serves as a good starting point before heading into the valley. Once inside, several entry points let you pick a route based on how much time and energy you have.
During the World Nomad Games, the valley floor fills with one of the largest temporary yurt camps in the world, housing thousands of participants and visitors. The yurts are set up using traditional methods, and the whole scene gives the place the look of a functioning nomadic settlement.
