Sihanoukville Province

Sihanoukville Province is a coastal region in southern Cambodia with sand beaches, mangrove forests, and several island groups in the Gulf of Thailand. The area spans multiple districts and includes both coastal zones and mountainous regions with marine ecosystems.

The province's main port city was founded in 1964 and became central to Cambodia's economic development. The current administrative structure was established in 2008, reorganizing the region's districts.

The province maintains Khmer traditions in its villages and markets, yet daily life shifts with growing tourism and international trade. Visitors notice this blend everywhere: in harbors where traditional fishing boats sit beside modern vessels, and along the streets of coastal towns.

The main highway connects the province directly to Phnom Penh with bus services and private transport options. The international airport and seaport make arrival from other countries and regions straightforward.

The protected area in the east features mixed forest and mountain ranges meeting coral formations, where rare animals like dolphins and seabirds live. This natural area often escapes notice from visitors who focus only on the better-known beaches.
