Kizuna bridge, Steel bridge across Mekong River in Kampong Cham, Cambodia.
The Kizuna Bridge is a steel structure spanning 1500 meters across the Mekong River, connecting the eastern and western areas of Kampong Cham. The bridge consists of multiple sections designed to carry both vehicles and pedestrians safely.
The bridge was financed by the Japanese government and opened in December 2001 as Cambodia's first crossing over the Mekong. The project marked an important turning point for regional infrastructure and land connections.
The bridge symbolizes close cooperation between Japan and Cambodia, with its name meaning connection or bond in Japanese. This reflects the friendship and partnership between the two nations.
The bridge is accessible during daylight hours for cars, motorcycles, and pedestrians, significantly improving connections across the province. Walkways on both sides make it safe to cross on foot.
At its opening, around 10000 people gathered to celebrate this milestone. Shortly after its completion, it briefly held the title of Cambodia's longest bridge before another project surpassed it.
