Wat Ounalom

Wat Ounalom is a temple complex located along Sisowath Quay featuring multiple interconnected structures of varying sizes arranged toward the Mekong River. The buildings include a multi-story main hall, smaller prayer houses, and several stupas scattered throughout the grounds.

The temple was established in the mid-15th century and grew into one of Cambodia's most important religious centers. It suffered severe destruction in the 1970s but was later carefully rebuilt.

This temple serves as the spiritual heart where monks and devotees gather daily to pray and practice their faith. You will see religious ceremonies and rituals woven into the daily rhythm of the complex.

The complex is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset and is best explored on foot by wandering through the various buildings and areas. Visitors should dress respectfully and honor the meditative space while moving freely through the grounds.

Within the complex sits a stupa that houses a hair relic of Buddha, making it one of the holiest places in Cambodian Buddhism. This sacred object is marked by a Pali inscription that honors and protects the shrine.
