Kampot Zoo is a sprawling facility covering more than 20 hectares at the base of Elephant Mountains beside the Teuk Chhou River. The grounds are surrounded by gardens and fruit plantations that frame the animal enclosures.
The zoo was established in the late 1990s and opened to visitors in the early 2000s. It grew to become one of the larger animal facilities in Cambodia.
The zoo displays animals native to the Cambodian region alongside species from around the world. Visitors can learn about local wildlife and how it is being protected.
The zoo is located roughly 8 kilometers from Kampot town and operates daily from early morning to late afternoon. It is easy to reach and allows visitors to spend several hours exploring the grounds at a relaxed pace.
The facility houses a diverse collection of animals spanning African and Asian species. Visitors can encounter hippopotamuses, zebras, ostriches, and large cats alongside primates from different continents.
