Grand People’s Study House, National library at Kim Il Sung Square, North Korea

The Grand People's Study House spans 100,000 square meters with 600 rooms across 10 floors, featuring traditional Korean architectural elements on its exterior.

The library opened in April 1982 after 21 months of construction to mark the 70th birthday celebration of North Korean leader Kim Il Sung.

The building functions as the national center for Juche studies, where North Korean citizens study the works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

The library maintains 21 reading rooms and 17 lecture halls, accommodating up to 10,000 visitors daily with access to computers and an internal database.

Foreign publications require special permission for local readers, while the library sends formal notifications to employers when books are not returned on time.
