Seonamsa

Seonamsa is a Buddhist temple complex situated on Jogyesan Mountain in Suncheon, with meditation halls, stone pagodas, and traditional wooden structures arranged across the forested slope. The buildings integrate naturally with the surrounding rock formations and forest environment, creating a layout shaped by the mountain terrain.

The temple was founded between the 7th and 9th centuries and developed over time into an important center for Korean Buddhism. Today it stands as part of a UNESCO World Heritage collection of Buddhist mountain monasteries that represent Korea's religious legacy.

The path to the temple extends about one kilometer through the mountain, crossing the Seungseongyo Bridge that integrates with the natural bedrock. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the route includes steps and uneven ground throughout the walk.

The temple grounds feature two three-story stone pagodas standing in front of Daeungjeon Hall, each representing different periods of Korean Buddhist construction. These paired structures showcase how architectural styles evolved across several centuries of Korean temple building.
