Lisakov, Mining settlement in Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan
Lisakov sits in an open basin near the Tobol River in the Kostanay Region. The terrain is flat and slopes gradually toward the river, with elevations ranging from 196 to 218 meters.
The settlement grew after iron ore deposits were discovered in 1949 and was officially founded in 1960. It gained city status in 1971.
The city attracts people from different backgrounds, including Kazakhs, Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, and Tatars. This mix shapes everyday life and the local community.
The city connects to Russia and Central Asia through the South Siberian Railway network. The main Kostanay-Zhetykara highway lies about four kilometers away.
Archaeological finds in the area show evidence of advanced horse-riding practices from the Late Bronze Age. These discoveries suggest human presence older than previously thought.
