Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport is an aviation hub in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The facility features two passenger terminals connected by walkways and travelators, serving both domestic and international destinations.
The facility began in 1931 as Akmolinsk Airport and opened regular operations three years later. After Kazakhstan gained independence, the site underwent several expansions, including new terminals and an extended runway for intercontinental connections.
Named after the first president of independent Kazakhstan, the airport reflects the nation's modern identity through its public spaces. Passengers notice Kazakh motifs in the waiting areas and on signage throughout the terminal.
Arrivals and departures operate in separate areas, so travelers should orient themselves early. The terminals offer currency exchange, food options, and waiting spaces, while the journey into the city takes roughly thirty minutes.
