Astana Grand Mosque, Islamic religious center in Astana, Kazakhstan
Astana Grand Mosque is a worship space in the capital of Kazakhstan with a central domed structure and four slender towers at its corners. The complex includes several levels with prayer halls inside as well as spacious outdoor areas featuring paved courtyards.
Construction started in spring 2019 and was completed a few years later, making this worship center one of the newest large religious buildings in Central Asia. The dedication took place after interior and exterior work was finished.
The building carries the name Hazrat Sultan in Kazakh, referring to a revered Turkic mystic and poet from the 12th century. Visitors notice calligraphy and geometric motifs across walls and columns that follow Central Asian design traditions.
Visitors should wear modest clothing and remove shoes before entering prayer halls. The complex is open for tours outside prayer times, with separate areas designated for men and women.
A large chandelier hangs in the main hall and was assembled from hundreds of thousands of crystal fragments. The piece weighs several tons and spans a considerable portion of the ceiling.
