The opera building spans 64,000 square meters with a main auditorium of 1,250 seats and a chamber hall for 250 spectators.
The Astana Opera opened in June 2013 with a performance of the Kazakh opera Birzhan-Sara by composer Mukan Tolebayev.
The architectural design combines 19th-century Italian theater elements with national motifs, including frescos depicting the Sharyn Canyon and Burabay landscapes.
The stage area measures 3,000 square meters with multiple platforms for simultaneous preparation of three different stage sets.
The opera house features a 1.6-ton chandelier suspended 13 meters high and an orchestra pit accommodating 120 musicians.
