Turgay Oblast, Administrative region in central Kazakhstan
Turgay Oblast was an administrative region in central Kazakhstan covering flat steppe lands and the Kazakh Upland. The territory was crossed by two major rivers that shaped the landscape and influenced settlement patterns.
The region was established in 1970 as part of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic and operated as an administrative unit for roughly 27 years. Its dissolution in 1997 resulted in the territory being divided between Akmola Oblast and Kostanay Oblast.
The region incorporates various districts that represent different ethnic groups, maintaining traditional Kazakh customs through local celebrations and community gatherings.
The Tobol-Tselinograd railway connected the region to the capital city Arkalyk through a branch line from Yesil. This railway served as the main transport link for moving people and goods throughout the area.
The region received the Order of Lenin recognition and later underwent division between Akmola Oblast and Kostanay Oblast during the 1997 administrative reorganization.
