Valakampiai Bridge, Reinforced concrete bridge in Vilnius, Lithuania
Valakampiai Bridge is a concrete structure spanning the Neris River and connecting the districts of Žirmūnai and Antakalnis in Vilnius. The structure has six spans and accommodates multiple traffic lanes as well as pedestrian walkways for daily commuters.
The bridge opened in 1972 and represented Soviet-era concrete engineering practices of that time. It became important for connecting growing residential areas on the eastern side of the Neris River.
The bridge connects two neighborhoods and sees constant daily traffic from people moving between Žirmūnai and Antakalnis. It has become an ordinary part of urban life here and shapes how these eastern districts of the city relate to one another.
The structure provides ample space for cars and pedestrians to move across the Neris simultaneously. If you are traveling between these two eastern districts, this is the direct crossing point.
The structure uses ferroconcrete blocks connected by steel wires that run continuously across the entire span. This joining technique creates seamless beams with no visible separation lines between the concrete sections.
