Sapieginė, Residential neighborhood in Antakalnis Eldership, Vilnius County, Lithuania.
Sapieginė is a residential area on the edge of Pavilniai Regional Park in eastern Vilnius with rolling terrain marked by erosion gullies and natural slopes. The neighborhood includes wooded areas and open spaces that define the transition between urban and rural landscapes.
The area has belonged to the noble Sapieha family since the 16th century, from whom the name derives. During the interwar period, Polish ammunition bunkers were constructed here as remnants of past military presence.
The neighborhood maintains ecological importance as one of southeast Lithuania's primary locations for bat populations during winter months.
Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since the terrain with its natural slopes and gullies is uneven and somewhat challenging. The area is easily accessible by public transport from Vilnius heading toward the eastern direction.
The area contains underground cave systems that provide natural habitats for wildlife and are of geological interest. These formations reveal much about the underground geology of the surrounding region.
