Pavilnys Regional Park, Regional park in Vilnius City Municipality, Lithuania
Pavilnys is a regional park in the Vilnius area that stretches across the Vilnia River valley, combining dense wooded slopes with steep hills. The terrain includes geological formations and offers several walking routes through protected landscapes.
The site was inhabited as far back as the Stone Age, as shown by archaeological finds at the base of Pučkoriai Mound. The mound itself served defensive purposes from the first century through the 14th century.
The park displays traces of ancient settlement through a wooden sundial installation erected at a historic site. Carved pillars and lawn seating across the grounds tell stories of past habitation.
The park is easily walkable with multiple access points around the Vilnia valley region. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the paths are easy to navigate.
The Pučkoriai Outcrop rises steeply above the Vilnia River valley and reveals in its layers the traces of ice movements from past ice ages. This dramatic rise offers a rare chance to read the geological history of the region.
