Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Vilnius, Baroque church in Antakalnis, Lithuania

The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Antakalnis is a baroque brick building with elaborate interior decoration. Its walls and ceilings are covered with around 2,000 white stucco figures created by Italian artisans.

The present building was completed in 1701, replacing an earlier wooden structure destroyed during 17th-century conflicts with Muscovite forces. This new church became a symbol of recovery after years of instability.

The church reflects how Polish-Lithuanian traditions shaped religious buildings across the region. Walking inside, you notice how Italian and local design traditions blend together in the decoration and layout.

Visitors can enter the church daily with no entrance fee required. Since this is an active place of worship, guests should be respectful of services and religious activities taking place.

Below the main entrance lies the tomb of the founder, marked with only a humble inscription stating that a sinner rests there. This unusually simple marking for such an influential donor shows an attitude of humility.
