Kalnai Park, Urban park in Old Town, Vilnius, Lithuania
Kalnai Park is an urban park in Vilnius' Old Town that spreads across the land between the Neris and Vilnia rivers. The terrain features several hills that form the natural backbone of the space.
The park occupies ground where seven Franciscan friars were executed during the reign of Duke Algirdas in the medieval period. The Three Crosses monument commemorates this event from Lithuania's past.
The Hill of Gediminas' Grave serves as a ritual site where the Romuva church community gathers to connect modern spiritual practice with ancient Lithuanian tradition. This location reflects how the space functions as a living center for cultural observance.
Entry to the park is easiest from T. Kosciuszko Street, which leads directly to an outdoor stage. The stage comes alive with concerts and cultural events during the summer months.
Excavations conducted in 2008 uncovered remains of a 13th-century settlement as well as traces of German prisoners from World War II. These findings reveal how the Valley of Songs has witnessed multiple layers of European history.
