Bekes Hill, Summit and hillfort in Senamiestis, Lithuania

Located between the Neris and Vilnia rivers, Bekes Hill rises within the 24-hectare Kalnai Park near Gediminas Tower in Vilnius.

The hill earned its name from Hungarian military commander Gaspar Bekes, who served under Stephen Bathory of Poland in the 16th century.

The location holds significance as a burial ground, marked by an octagonal tower measuring 20 meters in height and 6 meters in diameter.

The hill experienced substantial erosion events in 1838 and 1843, when portions were washed away by the waters of the Vilnia River.

The Hungarian Embassy maintains involvement with the site through plans to create memorials honoring the contributions of Gaspar Bekes.
