Bernardinai Garden, Public park in central Vilnius, Lithuania.
Bernardinai Garden is a nine-hectare park in central Vilnius located between Gediminas Castle Hill and the Bernardine Monastery, with the Vilnia River bordering one edge. The grounds combine walking paths with open green spaces where visitors find chess tables, petanque courts, and children's play areas.
The garden's origins date to 1469 when Casimir IV Jagiellon invited Bernardine monks to Vilnius, who constructed churches and drained marshy land. This early transformation of the landscape created the foundation for the space that exists today.
The central area features a musical fountain in the rose garden, surrounded by plant displays from the former Vilnius University Botanical Gardens. This space reflects how the city blends nature with daily urban routines for those who visit.
The park is open daily from 7 in the morning until 10 at night and features paths accessible to all visitors. The flat terrain and numerous rest areas make it easy to explore at a comfortable pace.
Near the entrance from Saint Bruno Street stands the oldest oak tree in Vilnius, which has witnessed four centuries of Lithuanian history. This tree is a silent witness to the changes that have happened around it.
