Church of St. Francis and St. Bernard, Gothic Catholic church building in Old Town, Lithuania
The Church of St. Francis and St. Bernard is a Gothic brick structure in Vilnius Old Town featuring three naves separated by eight tall pillars. The building measures approximately 42 meters in length and 24 meters in width.
A wooden chapel was constructed at the site in the late 15th century. Later, a brick building replaced it and became integrated into the city's defensive fortifications.
The church serves as a venue where traditional Bernardine music and concert masses are performed regularly throughout the year. The high-ceilinged interior space creates an acoustical setting that enhances these musical events.
The interior is open for visits and the church holds Sunday services with sign language interpretation available. A library and exhibition spaces are maintained within the building.
The walls feature early 16th-century frescoes that blend Gothic and Renaissance styles in their composition. The interior also houses one of Lithuania's oldest known crucifix sculptures.
