Paplauja Bridge, Steel bridge in Paupys district, Lithuania
Paplauja Bridge is a steel structure that crosses the Vilnia River between the districts of Užupis and Paupys, joining two separate residential communities. The crossing measures approximately 20 meters in length and about 8 meters in width and was built from metal.
The structure was designed in 1882 by engineer Feliks Jasiński as an important metal crossing over the Vilnia River. It represents one of the earliest bridges of its type in Vilnius and was part of the city's expanding infrastructure during the 1800s.
The bridge links two neighborhoods with different characters: the artistic quarter of Užupis with its galleries and studios on one side, and the quieter residential area of Paupys with its local shops and cafes on the other.
The bridge is easily accessible and provides direct foot and bicycle access between the two residential areas. It is open at all times and requires no special preparation for a visit.
The bridge stands near the site of Oginskis' mill, which burned down in 1860 and became a symbol of the region's industrial past. This location still bears traces of that manufacturing heritage and shapes how the neighborhood looks today.
