Christ's Resurrection Church, Functionalist church in Žaliakalnis district, Kaunas, Lithuania.
Christ's Resurrection Church is a basilica in the Žaliakalnis district of Kaunas and an example of functionalist architecture with three naves and modern lines. The building rises over 70 meters high and has white exterior walls with straight geometric forms.
Construction began in 1934 and was interrupted by global events. During World War II, the building was used by Nazis as a storage facility and later converted by Soviets into a radio factory.
The building shows how modern architecture in Lithuania expressed faith and national identity at the time. People used this church to connect their contemporary values with religious tradition.
Visitors can take an elevator to the observation deck for panoramic views over Kaunas. The funicular railway built in 1931 is also available as a way to reach the church location.
The building contains a columbarium and a parish museum in its basement, offering visitors insight into the place's history. It gained UNESCO World Heritage status in 2023 as part of Modernist Kaunas.
