Vištyčio Regional Park

Vištyčio Regional Park is a protected area near the Polish border featuring forests, lakes, and wetland areas. Lake Vištytis forms the natural boundary between Lithuania and Russia and defines much of the park's landscape.

The area was inhabited over many centuries by people who lived along the shores of Lake Vištytis. The park was established later to protect these valuable natural spaces and the cultural landscape that had developed over time.

The park's location at the intersection of Lithuanian, Polish, and Russian territories has created a distinct mixture of traditions in local communities.

There are no visitor centers in the park, so bring maps and supplies before heading out. Spring and summer offer the best conditions for exploring trails with better accessibility and more stable weather.

Lake Vištytis serves as an international border between multiple countries, creating special situations for boat traffic on the water. Vessels must navigate carefully to avoid accidentally entering foreign waters.
