Kriaučiaus akmuo

Kriaučiaus akmuo is a large granite-gneiss boulder located in the Pakražantis region and shows the typical characteristics of glacial deposits found in Lithuania. The stone features a triangular shape when viewed from above and displays smooth surface characteristics.

The boulder was moved in 1989 by workers from the Mažeikiai oil factory using industrial pulleys and steel cables, then relocated to a nearby hill. This action was significant for the protection and conservation of this natural monument.

The boulder carries a name rooted in local history that reflects the relationship between people and this natural landmark. Locals view it as an important part of their landscape and natural heritage.

The boulder is located near the Kražiai-Jauniškė road at an elevation of about 157 meters, which makes access relatively straightforward. The site is well-suited for nature observation and geological study.

The stone is composed of biotite-granite gneiss with blue-gray coloring and brown-pink spots, a composition that is distinctive for this region. This color combination makes the boulder visually striking and sets it apart from other glacial stones nearby.
