Laukžemių tvenkinys, reservoir in Lithuania
Laukžemių tvenkinys is an artificial reservoir in the Klaipėda region of Lithuania, stretching about 4 kilometers with steeply forested banks on both sides. The water body was created by damming the Eketė River and contains a significant volume of water that supports various fish species.
The reservoir was created in 1974 as part of the region's water management system to store water for agriculture. Nearby stands the Eketė fortress, an ancient fortification that marks centuries of historical significance in this area.
The name Laukžemiai refers to the open fields that characterize this area around the water. Today the reservoir serves as a gathering place where local people meet to fish, spend time with family, and maintain their connection to the water through seasonal routines.
Access is straightforward via roads connecting Klaipėda, Radailiai and Kretingė in the surrounding area. Fishing requires a permit, and visitors should note that the banks are steep in many places, so care is needed when moving along the shore.
Young fish are regularly stocked into the reservoir to maintain biodiversity and improve fishing conditions. This means the fish population continuously changes, giving anglers new opportunities to catch different species throughout the year.
