Church of Saint Simon in Valmiera

The Church of Saint Simon combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements with a tower that rises above the Valmiera skyline near the Gauja River.

The construction of Saint Simon Church began in 1283, making it one of the first religious structures established during the medieval period in northern Latvia.

The interior contains several medieval burial plaques from the 15th and 16th centuries, along with an 1886 Friedrich Ladegast pipe organ of significant musical value.

Visitors can access the tower viewing platform for 2.50 EUR, where they can observe the bell mechanism and see panoramic views of Valmiera.

Two stone bullets remain embedded in the north wall of the church, serving as physical evidence of the conflicts during the Livonian War.
