Jebel Moussa, Mountain summit in Fahs Anjra Province, Morocco

Jebel Moussa is a mountain summit in the Rif chain rising to about 830 meters, positioned near the Strait of Gibraltar in northern Morocco. The peak forms a prominent landmark that shapes the landscape of Fahs Anjra Province and remains visible from multiple directions.

Ancient Greeks and Phoenicians called this mountain Abyla, while Romans named it Columna to mark the boundary of the known world. These ancient names reveal the peak's role as a natural landmark recognized since classical times.

The mountain carries the name of Musa ibn Nusayr, a significant historical figure from medieval times whose legacy remains embedded in local memory. Communities around the base view this peak as a landmark tied to their regional identity and past.

The trek starts from Belyounech village and follows established hiking paths that are easy to access from there. Visitors should allow plenty of time and be reasonably fit, as the route is demanding and covers significant distance.

The mountain serves as a critical watch point for bird migration, with thousands of raptors and storks crossing between Africa and Europe along this route. During migration season, visitors can witness spectacular gatherings of these birds moving overhead.
