Skopje Zoo, Wildlife facility in City Park, Skopje, North Macedonia.
Skopje Zoo is an open-air animal facility set inside the City Park of the North Macedonian capital, with enclosures arranged along walkable paths through green grounds. The collection covers a wide range of species, from large mammals to birds and reptiles, housed in separate areas across the site.
The zoo opened in 1926 with a handful of donated animals kept on a small plot within the park. It grew slowly over the following decades and is now one of the oldest zoos in the western Balkans.
The zoo sits inside City Park, and on weekends it fills with families from Skopje who come to spend a few hours outdoors together. Children gather near the enclosures while adults rest on nearby benches, giving the place a relaxed, neighborhood feel.
The zoo is easy to reach on foot from the city center, as it sits within City Park which is well connected by bus. Morning visits tend to be quieter and the animals are often more active before the midday heat sets in.
The zoo keeps Siberian tigers and jaguars, which are rarely found in zoos across this part of Europe. Their enclosures draw steady crowds and are often the first stop visitors head to after entering the grounds.
