Mawnang, Former Shan settlement in Myelat region, Myanmar
Mawnang was a settlement in Myanmar's Myelat region, located in the central part of the country within hilly terrain. The community served as a local administrative and trade center for the surrounding area.
The settlement was established under the rule of Myoza princes who governed the region across several generations. The community experienced different periods of continuous and interrupted leadership over time.
The population of Mawnang consisted primarily of the Taungyo people, contributing to Myanmar's rich tapestry of ethnic communities.
The former settlement is located in hilly country that can be explored on foot with help from local guides. Access is easier during drier months when rain does not make the paths difficult to navigate.
During its existence, Mawnang experienced an uncommon period of leadership vacancy from 1774 until the return of ruler Maung Myat.
