Uppatasanti Pagoda

Uppatasanti Pagoda is a Buddhist temple complex in Naypyidaw with a gilded stupa and internal caves housing four jade Buddha images. The grounds include prayer halls, meditation spaces, and gardens planted with 108 sacred Bo trees.

Construction of this site began in November 2006 under Than Shwe's direction and finished in March 2009. It was built as part of the wider development of Naypyidaw during that period.

The name Uppatasanti comes from a protective Buddhist text written by a monk in the 1500s and recited during times of hardship. Visitors can sense this spiritual purpose in how people move through the halls and sit in quiet prayer.

Wear comfortable shoes since exploring the grounds involves considerable walking. Visit early in the morning when there are fewer crowds and the sun is less intense.

Seven white elephants live on the grounds, cared for by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation. These rare animals hold deep spiritual significance for Buddhists in the country and can be observed by visitors.
