The Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts exhibits 7,000 works including paintings, sculptures, and traditional handicrafts that represent Mongolian artistic expression.
The building, constructed in 1905, functioned as a Chinese bank before Soviet troops utilized it in the 1920s and later became Ulaanbaatar's first State Department Store.
The museum displays religious artifacts such as scroll thangka paintings, Buddhist statues, and tsam masks worn by monks during ceremonial gatherings.
The museum opens from May through September between 9:00 and 18:00, while winter hours from October through April run 10:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.
Five Dhyani Buddhas cast in 1683 and Tara in 21 manifestations stand among the notable permanent exhibits in this former Manchu-era commercial structure.
